Altrincham came back to the bread and butter of league football after their very creditable performance in the FA Youth Cup at Wrexham last Wednesday. They were slow to start but took the lead just before the interval when an inswinging corner by Lee Thompson was converted by Mario Daniel after 44 minutes.

After 56 minutes South Sefton equalised but Altrincham had a chance to go back ahead after 64 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately, Lee Shillito's spot-kick was saved. Five minutes later Mark Drew gave way to 16 year-old striker Steve Lunt, with Shillito dropping into midfield. After 71 minutes Lee Thompson powered forward into the penalty area and sent a reverse-angled shot across the keeper into the net to restore the Robins' lead. With four minutes remaining, defender Ian Horton came on for Paul Robinson.
